Artist Trading Card for Your Little Word {Iron Craft Challenge}

The last challenge of 2013 for Iron Craft was to make something for yourself that takes less than an hour. Since the Bit is home from school quick crafting is all I have time for, and since I’ve been thinking about doing One Little Word again, I thought I would use that as my inspiration.

There will be more on One Little Word 2014 hopefully tomorrow, but my word is “grow.” Last year one of the assignments in the formal group was to make little tags or cards for each of your 12 areas of focus for the year (they were supposed to fit in a scrapbook, but I’m not a scrapbooker, so I just used large gift tags).

I would like to do that again this year but haven’t had time yet, so I decided to focus just on the main word, grow, for this project.

This is made completely from scrap stuff I could find in my office at 9 p.m. on a Sunday.

I started with the background paper because I love these flower doodles.

I used a circle punch to cut out some orange paper with polka dots and then trimmed it so only a portion of the circle is on the card. The heart was also punched out of handmade paper.

The butterflies at the top are washi tape, and the nesting dolls at the bottom were part of a sticker collection my sister-in-law gave me.

The gear is from a Tim Holtz collection.

I outlined one of the little flower doodles with black Pitt pen, but I wasn’t in love with the look, so I filled it in with a Gelly Roll Stardust pen.

The only thing I don’t love about it is the word grow, which I wrote first in black and then in gold. Working on my lettering is definitely in the plans for 2014.

I’ve really enjoyed taking part in Iron Craft this year because it keeps me working on little projects through the year. I think I’m going to do it again next year, and if you’re interested in having a regular crafty challenge in your life, too, I hope you’ll check it out.
