I don’t really even know how long I’ve “known” Tara Swiger. I met her online probably when Twitter was starting to get big, and she was a yarn producer getting ready to quit her day job and follow her passion.

In the years since she became a full-time yarn maker, then started sharing her secrets about living with passion, following your dreams, marketing and doing the things in our creative businesses that most of us don’t really want to do.

She started a membership community called the Starship where people share, support and challenge each other to live their own creative dreams without ignoring the realities of business. I’m a longtime member but I stay in the background. Still, having access to her community, her insights and her energy had been good for me, no doubt about that.

A New Perspective

All the thinking and writing I’ve been doing lately has led me to the realization that I’ve just been pushing ahead, doing the work as fast as I can, for a long time now. There hasn’t been any time to pause, to think about what I’m doing and if it’s even the right thing to be doing. There hasn’t been any time to plan what comes next.

And that’s why as soon as my book came out it was like time stopped. I didn’t know what to do next.

I’m still not completely sure, but I think it’s getting clearer.

And all the reading and thinking and writing I’ve been doing has helped, but I need to focus and get deeper.

It turns out Tara’s got me covered, and she couldn’t have better timing.

Her new course, Explore You, is all about exploring what works and what doesn’t in your business and your life, about eliminating the shoulds and having the courage to go your own way. explore you

It’s a three-week look at setting intentions, figuring out what’s working, what isn’t and how to change that. Tara says it’s for people who are feeling “stuck, confused or avoidy,” and that’s definitely me lately.

I’m really excited to have a more formal way to explore what’s happening with me and where I want to go next, and I hope you’ll think about joining us.

Even if you don’t, this post part of the Exploration Party – a celebration of our inner explorers, led by Tara Swiger of Explore You. You can find other tales of adventure from artists, crafters, writers and biz smarties – and share your own story – right here. There’s lots of good stuff.

What have you been exploring lately? I’d love to hear!
